Am going to picnic on riverbank! Merry can't come so Sam is instead. Made Frodo card for his birthday. Ha! Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you! Happy birthday dear Frodo, happy birthday to you! Ha!

Went to bank with Sam. Are having nice picnic- we have bread and jam and funny cake things and Sam's taking these funny circular things and- Sam seems a little weird. He keeps taking these funny things and drinking this funny stuff and he seems on edge. Keeps muttering something about Rosie, Frodo and bed. Ha! Funny! Ha!

Jumped in river. Sam got angry. He said me's not allowed in dirty big river. What's wrong with the river? Nothing. So I can go in it if I want. Ha! Had nice funny swim. Very funny. Brought sandwiches in for swim too. They got very wet. Am, trying to dry them off with towel, but they don't seem to like it that much. Am wondering if they've got sunburnt.

Oh eru! I've just done something so terrible... I've killed the sandwiches! Sam is distraught. I dried them off with some towels but all their insides come out and it was so horrible! I can't bear it any more! I'm going home! And Sam's going home as well (to his and Frodo's house.) Sam keeps saying the Sam thing over and over again, "Frodo... Frodo... Rosie... Rosie... blanket... sheets... pillows... bed...". Am getting worried.

Am back in Buckland at home with mummy. SHe's telling me funny things. Apparently the shirrifs are going round to everyone's house because Lobelia Sackville-Baggins and her ugly horrid son Lotho, (The one who scratched my arm on purpose the other day) got a card shoved under their door with 'Hopee Bearfdee' written on it. Weird. They think it's some kind of threat. The whole Shire's in an uproar. I feel sorry for Frodo. He's their next door neighbour. Glad got card safely to Frodo, otherwise I might have been suspected!.

Wonder what Merry's doing? I hope he's having a good time with Frodo. It was some kind of birthday party, but mummy said it was a grown-up's one. Not fair. I never get to be a grown-up.

Can't sleep. Can here funny noises next door. Am going to go have a walk. Am sure mummy wouldn't mind.

I saw Legolas and Frodo! And they both look very happy! They were walking along the road and I tried to wave to them! Don't think they saw me though. Oh well.
